Election Commission notice to Vaiko

May 16, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Election Commission has issued a notice to MDMK leader Vaiko for allegedly making casteist remarks during election campaign. Referring to certain statements reportedly made by Mr. Vaiko on April 23 in Ariyalur district, it said it was prima facie of the opinion that such statements made by him had “violated the provisions of Model Code of Conduct”. The EC directed him to explain by 3 p.m. on May 15 why action should not be taken against him for the statements. “If no reply is received within the prescribed time limit, it will be presumed that you have nothing to say and the Commission will proceed to take appropriate action without making any further reference to you.”
