They had injury marks on their bodies; valuables were missing

An elderly couple was murdered by unidentified persons in Pazhaverkadu on Saturday night. Some valuables were missing from the house.

The deceased, Kamaludin (72) and his wife Rehamat Nazia (60), residents of Chinna Street in Pazhaverkadu, ran a petty shop in the locality. The murder came to light around 9.30 a.m. on Sunday when relatives of the couple noticed that the two had not stepped out of their house that day.

When they broke open the door and went in, they found the couple lying dead. The Tirupalaivanam police were alerted about the incident.

“The man was hit on the head with a log and the lady’s neck was slit with a sharp object. Some valuables were missing,” said a police officer. The couple have four daughters and a son, who is in Dubai.

As there were no signs of a forced entry, the police suspect the involvement of someone known to the couple. “Not many crimes are reported from Pazhaverkadu which is predominantly, a fishing community. No stranger can loiter around for long as they will be questioned by the locals and chased away if found suspicious,” said a senior police officer.

The police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
