Flying squads of the Election Commission are stumped by the methods and tricks adopted by political party functionaries attempting to carry and distribute money to voters.

“Can you expect money to be hidden inside a fridge,” asks a senior official of the Election Commission. On receipt of specific inputs that money was being stashed in a house near Sinthupatti in Madurai, officials rushed to the house and questioned the woman present there. Officials looked for the cash at various places, but they were taken aback when the woman finally showed the cash inside the fridge. “The cash was neatly packed in a plastic bag and wound in a red cloth and kept alongside other items in the fridge,” he said.

In Aravakurichi, when officials rounded up a man suspected to be distributing money, he dropped everything he had and ran away shouting, “Here is the money, take it and leave me.” A sum of Rs. 68,000 was recovered from the spot.

A team with a Special Observer visiting the State was in for a shock when they realised persons been tasked to mount ‘surveillance’ on their movements and the places they raid too.
