The State government on Wednesday wrote to the Union Water Resources Ministry, calling for early completion of hydrological study on the Palar basin being carried out by the Central Water Commission (CWC) along with the governments of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
The study is sequel to the Supreme Court's order in August that the process of resolution of the Palar dispute before the Commission be completed within three months.
The court stated that it had also been informed that the parties [Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh] were before the CWC, where various data were being examined to ascertain if there could be a resolution of the dispute among the parties. The process might continue and the parties would make an endeavour to arrive at a settlement out of court. The court also directed the matter to be posted before it in January.
The release added that the State government also wanted the Commission to convene a meeting of the two States at the appropriate time.
