Two men, who sourced resumes of job aspirants posted online and cheated over 100 persons by posing as employees, were arrested on Tuesday.

According to the police, the duo pretended to be from well-known car companies.

Central Crime Branch of the city police said, Kumar alias Rajavelu (38) of Salem and his friend Saravanan alias Santhosh (33) of Hosur, swindled over Rs. 5 lakh from job-seekers.

Following a complaint lodged by one of the victims Bharathisankar of Pallikaranai, a CCB team probed the case. E-mails and mobile phones used to attract the job aspirants led police to Rajavelu. Questioning revealed Rajavelu had found Bharathisankar’s resume on a site for free classifieds. After contacting Bharathisankar, he gave him a fake offer-letter of car company Renault Nissan.

The police said, Rajavelu had contacted the victim and asked him to deposit Rs. 12,000 in a bank account. Santhosh then carried out a telephonic interview and demanded more money, the police added.

The duo had cheated many youth and siphoned lakhs of rupees from them. They were arrested by the CCB team and remanded in judicial custody, the police said.
