A 26-year-old armed reserve policeman was assaulted by a drunken man as well as the man’s son and friends, in Elephant Gate, on Sunday evening.

Police said S. Krishnaraj, a constable attached to the Third Battalion of the Tamil Nadu Special Police, was taking his mother, S. Krishanveni (60), on his motorcycle, to a government hospital when K. Jayakumar (48), a resident of Perumal Koil Garden Street in Elephant Gate, also on a motorcycle, collided with Krishnaraj.

In the impact, Krishnaraj and his mother fell off their motorcycle. Jayakumar fled the scene.

Krishnaraj chased and caught him and asked how he could just leave the scene of an accident without even bothering to check if those involved had been injured. As Jayakumar was drunk and was near his home, he raised an alarm. Jayakumar’s son and his friends came to his rescue, and attacked Krishnaraj and damaged his mobile phone.

Krishnaraj’s mother in the meantime, alerted the police, who nabbed Jayakumar’s son, Karthik (28). A case has been filed.
