September 30, 2011 10:21 am | Updated 10:21 am IST - CHENNAI:

A drug smuggler's attempt to hide ephedrine parcel by dropping it in one of the washrooms at Chennai airport was foiled by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officials, when they went for a raid.

The passenger was later arrested by the NCB authorities with the help of video footage from the airport.

Sources in the NCB said following a tip off, a team of officials from the NCB conducted a check on the passengers bound for Kuala Lumpur on Thursday morning.

One of the passengers went to the rest room with the drug parcel and dropped it there. When the officials did not find any drug parcel, they allowed the passengers to proceed. Immediately, the arrested passenger went to the rest room to retrieve the bag, without knowing that NCB officials were following him.

They seized 6.2 kg of ephedrine, which was valued at Rs.25 lakh, the sources added.
