Driver's attention diverted, cash stolen

: Two unidentified youths diverted the attention of a car driver and stole Rs.3.9 lakh in cash from the vehicle at Koyambedu on Wednesday.

According to police sources, Dhuruvasulu (52), a land promoter, took his friends to a restaurant in Koyambedu on Wednesday night. The car driver Saravanan (30) was waiting in the vehicle.

One of the accused persons informed him that some currency notes were lying near the car. When Saravanan came out of the vehicle to pick the Rs.10 denomination notes, another suspect opened the rear door of the car and stole a suitcase containing the money and escaped.

The Koyambedu police are investigating.

In a similar offence at Adyar, two persons tricked a yoga teacher and stole cash and gold jewellery from her car on Wednesday.

Police said Radha (32) of Sai Nagar, Thoraipakkam, was sitting in her car when an unidentified youth said some money was lying next to the car. As soon as she got down to check, another accused took away her handbag from the vehicle containing Rs.15,000, a three sovereign gold ring and an ATM card.
