A 58-year old man was thrown out of his car on the Alwarpet flyover after his vehicle swerved and hit the railing of the flyover on Tuesday afternoon. He died on the spot.
According to police, A. Stephen (58), was an air-conditioner mechanic. Police state that his friend had purchased an army Sumo car with registration number 98B 064490A in an auction recently. He was a resident of 5th cross street, CIT colony in Alwarpet.
On Tuesday at around 12.30 p.m, he was heading from T.T.K Road towards C.P.Ramasamy Road. He is suspected to have been speeding. “He could not control the vehicle while taking the turn and hit the railing on the right side. In the impact, the doors opened and Stephen was thrown out. He fell on a parked car near the C.P.Ramasamy Road – T.T.K. Road Junction.
The police have registered a case and are investigating. “He was not wearing a seat belt and the vehicle does not seem to be in a good condition as it is nearly 15-year old. That is why the doors opened easily. Luckily, there was no one in the car on which he fell,” said a police officer.
Stephen is survived by his wife, who works as a nurse, and two daughters.
