The Chennai Metrowater and the Chennai Corporation have intensified their joint drive to check the quality of drinking water as part of the measures to prevent monsoon related health problems.
The number of locations from where the water samples are collected daily to check residual chlorine has been increased from 120 to 160. A press release from Metrowater said the quality monitoring wing of the water agency had also started taking water samples for chemical analysis such as hardness and odour from 60 locations instead of the 40 so far.
Of the 33,948 samples taken between January and October this year to check chlorine level, nearly 98.3 per cent was found to be within desirable level. Though water supplied is being disinfected, residents may boil it before drinking as a precautionary measure, the release said.
