Dr. K.M. Cherian's Frontier Lifeline Hospital on Saturday signed a memorandum of understanding with the Confederation of Indian Industry (Chennai Zone) to establish a basic framework for conducting cooperative activities between Dr. K.M. Cherian's Educational Society (KMCES) and the latter.
The MoU will result in exchange of professional expertise, academic and research experience on a short, medium, or long term basis.
This collaboration will include facilitation of major conferences, including co-branding, arrangement of sponsors, logistics, and conduct of programme and media coordination (with national /international outlook). A membership-driven approach for upholding technology development, business opportunities and market linkages will also be a part of this tie-up.
Earlier in the day, a two-day South Asian Transcatheter Valve Workshop, being held in technical collaboration with Braile Biomedica, a Brazilian manufacturer of products used in cardiovascular surgery, was kicked off.
Big boost
Experts from Brazil will impart the technology to doctors here, K.M. Cherian told mediapersons. The firm had also agreed to transfer the technology for manufacturing the percutaneous valve, which would help the hospital provide it to patients at a lesser cost. This would be a big boost to the medical village in Elavur planned by the hospital.
Transcatheter aortic valve replacements are now emerging as an alternative to surgical aortic valve replacement for high-risk patients.
The purpose of introducing this technology is to make this procedure economically viable and to bring forth this technology to the ageing population.
Emerging economies to benefit
With a rise in the availability of the high-end technology of the number of transcatheter aortic valve replacements, the needy population of the emerging economies will benefit.
