The Chennai Corporation, as part of its healthcare initiatives, will launch a scheme of collecting blood samples from the doorsteps of residents and delivering the test results free on February 25 at Pulianthope.
Mayor M. Subramanian, who announced this at the inauguration of 30 special health camps for women on Saturday, said bookings for availing the facility should be made on the civic body’s helpline 1913.
No charge would be collected either for collecting the samples or delivering the results. The investigation will be done at the diagnostic laboratories run by the civic body at a nominal cost. The scheme was announced in the 2009-10 Corporation budget.
Mr. Subramanian said that under the Varumun Kappom programme 123 camps have been conducted so far. A total of 1,23,935 men and 1,65,016 women were screened.
Commissioner of the Corporation Rajesh Lakhoni urged residents to utilise the facilities offered at 45 Integrated Counselling and Testing Centres, 93 Emergency Obstetric and Gynaecology Centres and the ten 24-hour hospitals.
