Dogs suspected to have been shot dead in Chennai

October 29, 2013 10:00 am | Updated 10:00 am IST - KANCHEEPURAM:

Over eight carcases of dogs were reportedly spotted in and around the Sriperambudur town area in the last few days.

It is suspected the animals were shot using an air rifle.

Sriperambudur town police sources said the carcases were spotted by representatives of the Blue Cross. After specific information was provided to them, a representative went to the locations and collected the carcases following preliminary examinations. The dead animals were shifted to the veterinary hospital in Chennai on Sunday evening and a police compliant was lodged.

It is suspected someone had deployed shooters to kill the dogs following the increasing menace in the area close to the government school playground. A thorough probe is under way to apprehend those who carried out the act, the sources said.
