DMK wants Question Hour in Assembly

August 02, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:04 am IST - CHENNAI:

DMK treasurer and Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin on Monday requested the Speaker, P. Dhanapal, to have Question Hour in the ongoing session.

Soon after the House proceedings began, Mr. Stalin raised the issue by saying that there were a number of questions waiting to be put across to the government. “I am sure even the ruling party members will have questions. But, the question hour has not been scheduled in the List of Business since the commencement of this session,” he said.

In reply, Mr. Dhanapal said, “As many are first time legislators, many questions were received late and those queries have been sent to the respective departments. Once the answers are received, the Question Hour would be scheduled in the list of business.”

Mr. Stalin also sought to know from Municipal Administration Minister S.P. Velumani as to whether he was ready to constitute a committee and inspect areas in Krishnagiri district to find out whether drinking water supply was being ensured throughout the district.

During the debate on the demands for grants in Cooperation and Food Department in the House, when the Minister said that the drinking water project was being implemented in the district, Mr. Stalin alleged that about 48 per cent of the district was not getting drinking water and wanted to know whether the Minister was ready to constitute a committee with local MLAs as members and visit the areas.

Mr. Velumani, however, maintained that the project was being implemented successfully.
