DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin on Saturday asserted that his party would certainly come to power after 2016 Assembly polls and the first signature of the government would be for implementation of prohibition.

Addressing the conference, “Women against Liquor,” organised by the party’s women wing, Mr. Stalin said those who were criticising the DMK for leading a movement for prohibition were actually not able to stomach its success.

“No one can prevent us from coming to power. The first signature of the government will be for prohibition,” he said.

Mr. Stalin described as “political orphans” the leaders who were blaming the DMK for the cultural and political deterioration in the State.

DMK leader M. Karunanidhi said the confidence expressed by leaders, including Mr. Stalin, that the DMK would capture power in the State showed their determination. He called upon party leaders to bury their differences and work towards achieving victory in the election. “Even small States have made strides in various fields but Tamil Nadu is stagnating and is dependent on Centre,” Mr. Karunanidhi said.

DMK MP and women’s wing secretary Kanimozhi could not address the meeting because of a surgery she underwent recently.
