A mason was brutally murdered by a political functionary as a dispute arose over illegal intimacy with a woman in Puzhal.
Venkatesan (40) of Surya Nagar was the victim. According to the police, Sujatha who was estranged from her husband, had been living with her mother.
The deceased Venkatesan, who is a relative of Sujatha, questioned the illegal intimacy between Sujatha and Selvam, a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam functionary of Kolathur.
Under the pretext of consuming alcohol, Selvam took Venkatesan in his bike to Maduravoyal and attacked him brutally and later pushed him down on the road. A lorry which came behind crushed Venkatesan to death. Red Hills police arrested Selvam and is investigating the case.
