The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has urged the Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu to intervene immediately alleging that the Madurai District Collector “is openly supporting All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in his speeches in public as well as while addressing certain forums.”
In a communication to Praveen Kumar, CEO, Pon. Muthuramalingam and K.S. Radhakrishnan, members of the DMK headquarters election committee, have enclosed a letter of Rupa Jayanth of Madurai in which she alleged atrocities by Madurai City Police on March 29. “In spite of these representations to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Madurai, no action was taken against the illegal action of Madurai City Police stated in her petition”, they added.
They pointed out that Madurai city DMK secretary G. Thalapathi had reported the same issue to the Madurai District Collector. However, the Collector was openly supporting the AIADMK, they alleged, and requested the CEO to go through enclosed petitions, telegrams and press clippings to take necessary and suitable action to maintain normalcy in Madurai district so as to pave the way for free and fair elections.
