DMDK president Vijayakant announced on Tuesday that his party would organise a protest-fast at the party headquarters in Koyembedu on Friday to condemn the violence unleashed on the Tamils and their properties by Kannada chauvinists in Karnataka over Cauvery water issue over the past few days.

Despite the Supreme Court passing its orders, Vijayakant said that certain Kannada organisations are unable to accept the verdict. “DMDK condemns the violence. The only way to solve this issue is by inter-linking of rivers in India,” he said.

Accusing Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa of maintaining silence about the violence, he said that TN CM Jayalalithaa was too slow to act. “After the buses have been set on fire, she wrote a letter to Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah. She has responded to these development at a turtle’s pace,” he said.
