Dispute over entry of MP’s wife at airport

January 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - CHENNAI:

Commotion ensued at the Chennai airport as Rajya Sabha member and CPI national secretary D. Raja’s wife was allegedly denied entry into the domestic terminal by a CISF staff member.

Around 4.15 p.m., when Mr. Raja and his wife Annie Raja entered the departure hall of the domestic terminal to take the Air India flight AI 539 to New Delhi, the CISF assistant sub-inspector allegedly raised objections over his wife’s Parliament pass and ticket.

Mr. Raja said the guard at the gate couldn’t understand what was written on her document.  “Her pass says ‘spouse of D. Raja’. This is the manner in which spouses are issued Parliament passes. He could not understand this and behaved in an arrogant manner despite my attempt to explain it to him,” he said.

CISF officials said they will take action against the staff member. “We have apologised to Mr. Raja and his wife,” an official said.
