Plea to introduce direct train service between Melmaruvathur and Bangalore is under the consideration of Ministry of Railways, according to Union Minister for State (Railways), K.H. Muniyappa.

Enquiries reveal that the Union Minister, who visited the Melmaruvathur railway station on Chennai-Villupuram sector on March 1 and inspected infrastructure development and passenger amenity improvement works, told reporters that the Ministry had received requests urging for direct rail link between Melmaruvathur and Bangalore.

Demand under consideration

“The demand is under consideration as the Railway Board is actively pursuing the idea to introduce a service from Bangalore to Puducherry via Bangarupet and Melmaruvathur,” he added.

Mr. Muniyappa, who gave a brief outline of salient features of Railway Budget presented by Union Minister Mamta Banerjee recently, had also visited the Adhi Parasakthi temple, Melmaruvathur, instituted and maintained by Sri Adhi Parasakthi Siddhar Peetam, Melmaruvathur.
