Our column this week attempts to guide people in some of the essential processes involved in obtaining planning permission for a house.

‘Veetai Katti Paar’— so goes a popular saying in Tamil that speaks volumes about the difficulties faced by an individual in constructing a house. From purchasing a plot to procuring the finance, Identifying a trusted builder, mobilising manpower and construction material, and, finally, constructing the 'dream house', it is indeed a tough task for individuals.

A lot has changed over the years, with the government going in for greater use of online tools to simplify the procedures involved. Now, contractors and engineers take care of nearly every task for their clients.
