Detained for assaulting traffic cops

Two youth, reported to be under the influence of liquor, were detained at Chromepet police station on charges of assaulting traffic policemen on Sunday last. Traffic policemen said that a team of traffic policemen were on duty on GST Road, Chromepet, intercepted two young men riding a high speed motorcycle. Even as the traffic police sub-inspector was making enquiries, asking for their documents and verifying the same, one of the motorcyclists picked up an argument and is also reported to have picked up a quarrel with the traffic policemen.

Following a message over the police wireless, a mobile patrol picked and took them to Chromepet police station. Subsequently, they were taken to Tambaram Taluk Government Hospital, where a medical test established that they were driving under the influence of liquor. Further investigations are on.
