Depression likely to turn into cyclonic storm

A depression formed over the Bay of Bengal, about 460 km. South East of Chennai, is likely to develop into a cyclonic storm by Monday evening. The deep depression, officials at the Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, will bring heavy rainfall to coastal areas of Tamil Nadu. “We are monitoring the situation now. We will be able to say anything about the event of a cyclonic storm with accuracy only after gauging the situation tomorrow,” S. Thampi, deputy director general of meteorology said.

Meanwhile, heavy rains are expected in Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Puducherry and Tirunelveli.

The Government has declared a holiday for schools and colleges in Chennai, Cuddalore and Tiruvallur districts on Monday.
