Departures from new airport terminal delayed yet again

April 10, 2013 02:28 am | Updated November 16, 2021 08:17 pm IST - CHENNAI:

Yet again, departure operations that were to begin from Chennai airport’s new domestic terminal have been delayed.

Last Friday, Airports Authority of India officials had said the departure section would be thrown open for use on April 10. However, late on Tuesday, officials decided to postpone the opening by another day.

An official said the decision was taken as a few more procedures still needed to be completed. “If all goes well, we plan to begin operations on April 11. Some airlines said they needed a day’s time to test their systems at the new terminal,” the official added.

Sources at the airport also said that some equipment needed to be put in place near the boarding gate. The announcement system too, is yet to be tested.

“Also, some of the signage directing passengers to where airlines have their counters need to be placed. We don’t want to begin operations unless we are properly acquainted with all the new systems and procedures. This is being done only to ensure that passengers are not inconvenienced in any way,” said another official.
