S. Muthukumarasamy, the agricultural engineer whose suicide has lead to the arrest of former Agriculture Minister S.S. Krishnamoorthy, is a relative of Chief Secretary K. Gnanadesikan.
Family members of the deceased officer confirmed that Mr. Gnanadesikan was a relative of Mr. Muthukumarasamy’s wife.
However, they refused to comment on whether his intervention was sought after the suicide to press for an investigation.
“I can only say he is a relative,” a family member said on strict condition of anonymity, adding that Mr. Gnanadesikan did not attend Mr. Muthukumarasamy’s funeral.
“Give protection”
Tamil Maanila Congress leader G. K. Vasan has sought adequate protection for the family members of S. Muthukumarasamy, Assistant Executive Engineer, Department of Agricultural Engineering, who committed suicide in Tirunelveli on February 20.
Fair probe
Talking to reporters in Madurai on Monday, he wanted the government to ensure that the CB-CID probe into the death was conducted in a free and fair manner, without any political interference. Only then the real culprits would be brought to book, he said.
