A narrow lane dotted with shanties off Pumping Station Road near Arunachalam Street, Chintadripet, leads to the house of >Muniraj (13) who was run over by a Mercedes-Benz last week.
A 500-metre walk down the alley ends in a group of relatives mourning the death of the young boy.
After the initial furore over the >boy’s death , there is little progress in the case. Also, no compensation has been announced for the family yet.
When The Hindu visited the one-room house on Tuesday, Muniraj’s father Thyagu was sitting inside holding a plate of rice.
“I have not been able to eat a morsel. Every time I try, Muniya’s face comes to my mind,” he says, tears streaming down his face.
Thyagu has been suffering from cramps the past few days as he has not eaten.
“He has been missing work too. Muniraj would follow his father wherever he went. Those memories haunt him everyday,” says Muniraj’s mother Malini, looking tired with swollen eyes.
Since Muniraj was good at dancing, Thyagu had taken him to meet director Vikram for a chance in movies.
“He said he would contact us for his next film. Muniraj was happy I took him to the film director,” says Thyagu.
Muniraj’s brother Vasu (8) keeps asking his parents where his brother is.
“We hush him up giving some excuse. We took him to the funeral on the condition that he would not cry,” says Venkat, Muniraj’s uncle.
Malini recalls Muniraj asking for dosa in his final moments.
“He kept asking for water and dosa. But the doctors told me not to feed him as he was to undergo a blood transfusion. A few hours later, he passed away,” she says.
On Tuesday evening, Christina Samy, national executive member of Aam Aadmi Party, visited Muniraj’s family.
“We have taken up the case and will support them in every way,” she says.
