Former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran appeared before a special court for CBI cases here on Friday in a connection with the case of installing high-end telecommunication facilities illegally at his residence in the city when he was Union Telecom Minister.

The CBI registered a case on July 23, 2013 against Mr. Maran, his elder brother and chairman of Sun Network, Kalanithi Maran, the then Chief General Managers of BSNL, the then Additional Private Secretary to the Union Minister, and officials of Sun Network under the provisions of the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Mr. Maran and others also filed an application stating that over 20 documents provided by the CBI along with the charge sheet were illegible and the information could not be ascertained. They prayed to the judge to postpone framing of charges till legible documents were provided to them.

Meanwhile, Kalanithi Maran moved a separate petition under Section 205 of the CrPC to permanently dispense with his appearance in the case. The judge adjourned the matter to August 11.
