Cylinder blast kills couple in Chennai

An LPG cylinder blast in the populous locality near Tondiarpet Market in Chennai early on Wednesday, killed a couple on the spot. Their teenage daughter and their elderly landlord suffered serious injuries in the accident.

It took place around 6 am at the house belonging to Krishnan (72) in Muthamizh Nagar where LPG cylinders were stocked and sold. His tenants Subramani (42) and wife Tulasi (35) were killed instantly in the blast. Their daughter Muthulakshmi (13) and Krishnan escaped with injuries and are undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Police suspect the elderly man was illegally selling cylinder from his house. Investigations are underway to determine the origin of the blast.
