Two die in accident
Two men, both of them car drivers, died in a road accident after the motorcycle on which they were riding skidded after they lost control at Nandambakkam on November 11.
St. Thomas Mount Traffic Police (Investigation) said that R. Arumugham (35) and G. Venkatesan (28) of T. Nagar had gone to Porur on Sunday evening. After finishing Deepavali shopping, they were returning home on a motorcycle.\
At Nandambakkam, Arumugham had lost control of the motorcycle, which dashed against the median. Both of them sustained injuries on their head, face and legs.
They were rushed to a private hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival. Further investigations are on.
Construction workers murdered
Two murders were reported in different areas in the city’s southern suburbs recently.
Both the murder victims were construction workers. Pazhavanthangal police sources said that S. Mannangatti, a construction worker and a resident of Raghupathy Street in Nanganallur, had frequent quarrels with Kothandam and his relatives living in the same area.
On the evening of November 9, Kothandam and two others had come to Mannangatti’s house and picked up a quarrel.
Mohan (35), cousin of Mannangatti, was living with him. Mannangatti picked up a knife and rushed to assault Kothandam and his relatives, but the blow landed on his cousin Mohan, by mistake. Mohan sustained critical and bleeding injuries and was rushed to Tambaram Taluk Government Hospital in Chromepet, from where he was referred to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai.
Mohan succumbed to injuries on Saturday morning and Mannangatti was arrested.
In Gowl Bazaar, residents noticed the body of a man lying amidst the bushes near the Government Higher Secondary School on Saturday morning.
Shankar Nagar Police removed the body to Chromepet Government Hospital for post-mortem. He had the name ‘Saradha’ tattooed on his hand in Tamil.
He was wearing a brown colour pant and grey T-shirt and was around 50 years old. Stating that it was a clear case of murder, police said that a huge stone was used to smash his face and that the victim had died instantly. The victim's identity was established a couple of days later as Kumar of Nandanam.
Real estate dealer robbed of cash
Shankar Nagar police sources said that Rajendran, formerly\a farmer, had converted his farm lands into housing plots.
On Wednesday last, he had sold one of the plots and received Rs. 7 lakhs from the buyer. He proceeded towards his home with the cash, preserved in a plastic bag, in his two-wheeler.
But en route he left his bike for a few minutes to attend to some personal work. On his return he found that the cash bag was missing. Police suspect two men who had come on a motorcycle and stopped near the moped while Rajendran was away. Further investigations are on to nab the culprits.
Chain snatched
A gold chain weighing around five sovereigns was snatched from a flower vendor in Chromepet on Monday evening. Police said Devaki (42) was selling flowers on the road over bridge at MIT Gate, Chromepet.
When she was on her way home in Ganapathypuram two men on a motorcycle relieved her of her chain and sped away. The case has been taken up for investigation by Chitlapakkam police personnel.
