Carnatic musicians are, almost as a rule, cricket lovers and many musicians have tried their hand at professional cricket. The Musicians’ Cricket Match this year is a Pongal special.

The Cricket Kutcheri, an annual tradition post December season in Chennai, is a time when Carnatic musicians come together for a day after a hectic December schedule to cool off and relax. The event has been in existence for almost a decade now. Carnatic musicians are, almost as a rule, cricket lovers and many musicians have tried their hand at professional cricket. The Musicians’ Cricket Match this year, is a Pongal special, and will be held at St. Bedes School Cricket Ground, Santhome, Mylapore on January 15, 2013 at 9.00am.The event year after year is supported by passionate cricket loving musicians and this edition is an initiative of vocalists V.K. Manimaran, K.N. Shashikiran and V. Sankaranarayanan. 

The four teams will be captained by T.M. Krishna, P. Unnikrishnan, K.N. Shashikiran and V.K. Manimaran. The format is as follows: four eight over group matches between the four teams and the two winners will play the eight over finals. Participating artistes are T.M. Krishna, P. Unnikrishnan, K.N. Shashikiran, V.K. Manimaran, N. Ravikiran, Manargudi Easwaran,  Ghatam S. Karthick, Poongulam Subramaniam, Palghat Ramprasad, B. Sivaraman, V. Sankaranarayanan, N. Guruprasad, Trivandrum V. Balaji, B.U. Ganesh Prasad, P. Satish Kumar, Sruthi Sagar, Chandrasekhara Sarma, Melakaveri Balaji, C.A. Rajasekhar, K.S. Ramana, Sai Narasimhan, Anirudh Athreya, Pradeep Kumar, S. Varadarajan, V.V.S Murari, Sikkil Gurucharan, Rithvik Raja, K.V. Gopalakrishnan, Prasanna Venkatraman, J. Sriram, Ramkumar Mohan, Srivanchiam Sriram and so forth.

The event is open to music lovers and cricket fans.
