Crew members of U. S. vessel released on bail

Twenty-one members of the crew of U.S.-based ship, Seaman Guard Ohio, were released from Puzhal Central prison on conditional bail on Saturday.

The members included 14 Estonians, 5 Britons and 2 Ukrainians. The members visited Mylapore police station on Saturday.

A total of 12 Indians in the ship were also released from Palayamkottai central prison on Friday.

The ship, owned by AdvanFort in the U.S., was intercepted by Coast Guard ship Naikidevi on October 12 and escorted to V.O. Chidambaranar Port in Tuticorin.

The Tamil Nadu ‘Q’ branch police arrested 33 men for sailing into Indian waters without permission. Arms and ammunition aboard had been seized as the crew failed to produce valid documents.
