Civic workers have urged the authorities to implement the Prohibition of Manual Scavenging and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013 by immediately releasing a one-time cash assistance of ₹40,000 and rehabilitation support to over 2,600 manual scavengers in Tamil Nadu.

The workers, who gathered for the ‘Stop Killing Us’ call of Safai Karmachari Andolan here, alleged that they were still being engaged regularly to get into manholes and septic tanks despite the prohibition of manual scavenging and the 2014 Supreme Court order, a press release stated.
