CPI(M) fields DYFI veteran

January 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:34 am IST - CHENNAI/TIRUCHI:

Communist Party of India (Marxist) Tiruchi city unit secretary K. Annadurai is the party's candidate for the Srirangam Assembly by-election.

State secretary of the party G. Ramakrishnan said that while the AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, was convicted and disqualified in a disproportionate assets case, many DMK leaders also faced corruption cases filed by the CBI. “We are also going to seek the support of secular political parties other than the Congress and the BJP. Our campaign in the election will be on the plank of anti-corruption, communalism and neo-economic policies,” he said adding that the CPI had agreed to support Mr. Annadurai. Hailing from an agricultural family, 42-year-old Mr. Annadurai has been a long-time activist of the party’s youth wing, the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI). He had served as the Manachanallur union president and district president of the DYFI. Mr. Annadurai, who has studied up to Plus Two, has participated in various agitations as a student activist and full-time member of the CPI(M).
