CPI seeks govt intervention

July 02, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:25 am IST - CHENNAI:

The CPI on Friday called for the State government’s intervention into the standoff between the advocates’ association and the Madras High Court over amendments to the Advocates Act.

In a statement here, party State secretary R. Mutharasan said the government should intervene to find an amicable solution as the public would be affected by the lawyers’ boycott. “It is not only the advocates who are affected by the boycott of courts, but also the litigants. Therefore, the government should intervene,” said the statement. The CPI leader requested the Chief Justice of India to take note of the concerns of advocates.
