The Madras High Court on Thursday quashed an order issued by the Commissioner of Police, Chennai City, on May 18, detaining journalist V. Anbazhagan of Ullatchi Alasal under the Goondas Act.

Justices A. Selvam and P. Kalaiyarasan allowed a habeas corpus petition filed by the detainee’s wife on the ground of inordinate delay on the part of government officials in considering representations seeking his release. The judges ordered that he should be released from the Central Prison in Coimbatore forthwith, unless his incarceration was required in connection with any other case pending against him.
