Justice K. Chandru of the Madras High Court has ordered notice on a petition seeking a direction to the official authorities to decide on a representation regarding two temples in the State.
In the petition, filed by counsel M. Radhakrishnan and P. Sundararajan, the petitioner Tamilaga Hindu Saiva Koilgal Padugappu Matrum Deivaneri Parappum Sangam said the Sri Vaidhyanathaswami temple at Vaidheeswaran Koil and Sri Sattanathaswami temple at Sirkazhi were among the oldest temples in south India. The temples were short of sanctioned staff strength. There were several vacancies. The petitioner alleged that those working in the temples were not paid minimum wages prescribed by the government. The petitioner said a representation was sent to the authorities in June this year. The Commissioner, HR and CE, requested the Joint Commissioner to enquire into the matter and file a report. However, it appeared that no action had been taken, the petitioner said.
