Sankalp Vocational Sahayika (SVS) — run by Sankalp Trust — which has been imparting vocational skills to young adults with learning challenges, will be throwing open its courses to youngsters from economically disadvantaged backgrounds in the coming months.

The courses, which are for youngsters above the age of 17 with learning challenges, impart specific job competency skills and make them employable. “As of now, we are conducting eight-month courses in the retail sector, but in the coming months we will be condensing them to two-month courses,” Lakshmi Krishnakumar, director, learning disability, Sankalp, told mediapersons.

Sankalp also imparts training to autistic children .

The organisation is planning to set up a model special needs campus where around 500 children can study. “We are also planning a training academy where teachers for special children will be trained. Training will also be imparted to tutors of mainstream schools,” said Sulata Ajit, director, special education, Sankalp.
