Couple hit by train near Guduvanchery, dies

A couple was killed after being hit by the Tirumalpur-Chennai Beach EMU while they were crossing the tracks near Guduvanchery on Saturday.

The accident took place around 8.45 a.m. Railway police said Govindaraj (61) and his wife Kasturi (58), residents of Priya Nagar Extension in Madambakkam were crossing the tracks near the northern end of the platform, when they were run over by the train.

They died on the spot. Family members said the couple was on their way to a hospital on GST Road for medical tests.

Quoting eye witnesses, GRP officers said the train does not stop at Guduvanchery, and the couple could not hear the screams from other commuters waiting at the station.

The bodies were taken to Chromepet hospital for post-mortem examinations.
