The Chennai Corporation on Wednesday took over two OSR (open space reservation) lands worth Rs.50 crore in Guindy.
Inspecting the work to demarcate the boundary of the OSR lands, Mayor M. Subramanian said “The Corporation will take over all OSR lands in the city in a month.”
The total area of the two pieces of OSR lands which were taken over on Wednesday from the CMDA is 23 grounds.
One of the lands on plot No.1, Thiru.Vi.Ka.Industrial Park, Jawaharlal Nehru Salai, Guindy, where the Olympia Technology park is located, measures 3,415.26 sqm. The civic body proposes to develop a park on the Rs.31 crore worth land, at a cost of Rs.79 lakh.
The other OSR land that the Corporation took over from the CMDA is on plot No.16 to 20, 20 A, Thiru.Vi.Ka.Industrial Park, SIDCO Road, Guindy. The land measuring 1687.81 sqm is worth Rs.15 crore. The civic body would develop a park at a cost of Rs.39 lakh on the land.
At least 97 pieces of OSR lands at various places in city are yet to be handed over to the civic body.
“CMDA had taken over these OSR lands from the builders and had requested the Corporation to take over. I am glad that they are taking speedy action to maintain these OSR land as parks,” CMDA vice chairperson Susan Mathew told The Hindu .
Other OSR lands yet to be taken over by the Corporation include 7218 sqm in Koyambedu, 1037.59 sqm in Ayanavaram, 6528 sqm in Nungambakkam, 4100 sqm in Thiruvanmiyur, 406.25 sqm on College Road, Nungambakkam, 2325.07 in Mylapore, 3233 in Adyar, 3082 in Tondiarpet, 19994.34 in Perambur, 2111.6 in Alwarpet and 322 sqm in Santhome.
