The Chennai Corporation has carried out over 12,000 developmental works at a cost of Rs.1000 crore in the past four years, Deputy Chief Minister M. K. Stalin said here on Tuesday.
Speaking at the 150th function in the city for distribution of free colour television sets on Tuesday, Mr. Stalin said the significant works that have been completed include the beautification of the Marina Beach. Pedestrian-friendly facilities, widening of roads, development of parks, auditorium, stormwater drains are some other works completed, he added.
“In Thousand Lights constituency, 1,122 developmental works have been completed in the past four years at a total cost of Rs.103.67 crore.” The works include 99 school buildings, five over bridges and subways, 16 family welfare centres, 20,062 new streetlights, 1,346 automatic lighting, 37 high mast lights, 200 new noon meal centres and 51 gymnasiums, he added.
A total of 6.72 lakh free colour TV sets have been distributed so far in the Chennai Corporation limits, Mr. Stalin said. On Tuesday, 6,739 colour TV sets were distributed at the function, organised at Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan Salai, T.Nagar, to residents of Ward 114 (Sathyamurthy Nagar).
