A four-year-old schoolgirl was allegedly subjected to corporal punishment by her teacher at Don Bosco Matriculation School in MKB Nagar. The teacher was placed under suspension by school authorities after the girl’s mother approached the police.
The mother of the SKG (equivalent of UKG) student said that the child had been repeatedly hit with a ruler. “My daughter came home from school crying on Thursday afternoon and told me that her teacher had punished her for not eating. The beating had led to blood clots on her left arm,” she said.
The child’s mother said she had complained to the school authorities 15 days ago about punishment meted out to her daughter but no action was initiated. “They told me that a fellow student might have hit her. My daughter kept refusing to go to school saying that her teacher would punish her,” recalled the mother.
On Friday, the child’s parents approached the MKB Nagar police after the school authorities allegedly tried to hush up the matter.
Police personnel carried out talks with the school authorities, following which the teacher, identified by the police as Loreen Mosis, was suspended for a week.
The child’s parents want the teacher to be dismissed. They plan to shift their daughter to another school. Don Bosco School authorities were not available for comment.
