Co-optex, which has one-fifth of its total sales revenue coming in from the sale of wedding saris, is now planning to take its extensive collection of wedding saris to brides’ doorsteps.

Special officer and managing director, Co-optex, U. Sagayam, told reporters at a press meet on Saturday that generally, wedding halls were booked well in advance by families.

Hereafter, Co-optex would get bridal families’ addresses and approach the families either through mail or through its marketing personnel to canvass for its wide range of pure silk, pure zari, half-tone zari and other wedding saris.

These wedding saris are made by handloom weavers in Kancheepuram, Tirubhuvanam and Sirumugai. Other traditional cotton sari varieties that are also worn by wedding parties are woven by weavers in other areas, he said.

Bulk orders for the gifting of saris and dhotis to relatives during weddings or on other important occasions would also be entertained, if required by customers, he said.

He also pointed out that a bulk order for 50 pure silk saris in Chettinad design was clinched recently by the Kancheepuram Murugan Silk Handloom Weavers Co-operative Production and Sales Society.
