Morning showers on Wednesday broke the spell of unpleasant weather in the city. This round of rains is expected to last for a few more days.

According to the meteorological department, an upper air cyclonic circulation, over the south Andaman Sea and adjoining south- east Bay of Bengal, extending up to 3.1 km above mean sea level, persists.

Almost all areas in the city and its suburbs received light showers on Wednesday, with Nungambakkam recording 3.9 mm and Meenambakkam recording 5.9 mm till 5.30 p.m.

Officials said Chennaiites may enjoy cool weather as light showers may occur in some areas. Many places along coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry may receive fairly widespread rain or thundershowers with isolated heavy to very heavy falls. Maximum and minimum temperature would be around 31 and 27 degree celsius respectively.

Minimum temperatures are below normal by 2 to 4 degree Celsius at a few places over coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
