In a bid to create awareness on the role of women in the progress of the country and also influence the world, Swami Vivekananda 150 Women’s Initiative (SW150WI) will organise a convention in the city.

Addressing mediapersons here on Monday, danseuse and the convention’s organising chairperson Padma Subrahmanyam said the conference on ‘Indian women as a guide for the world at crossroads’ will be held on January 23 at Narada Gana Sabha.

S. Rajalakshmi, SW150WI’s secretary said that the convention would discuss the Indian model of modernity that could also influence the west.

About 1,000 women, who had earlier interacted in groups, would take part in the convention.

Akhila Srinivasan, vice-chairperson of the convention’s organising committee said that there are plans to open branches of the initiative across the nation and reach out to colleges.

Some of the speakers who are scheduled to participate in the convention are Cancer Institute’s chairperson V. Shanta, Rajashree Birla of Aditya Birla Group and Prema Pandurang, founder of Kshetropasana.
