Contributions continue to pour in for Relief Fund

In the last few days, the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund has received Rs.67.79 crore as contributions from individuals, political parties and corporate bodies to take up relief and rehabilitation work in areas affected by cyclone ‘Thane.'

An official release issued on Friday said S.N. Subramanian of Larsen and Toubro (Construction) presented a cheque of Rs.2.35 crore to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to help those affected by Cyclone Thane.

On Wednesday, the contributions were made by Indian Bank Chairman and Managing Director - Rs.1 crore; Assembly Speaker D. Jayakumar, Deputy Speaker Dhanapal and Government Whip Mohan - (one month salary of AIADMK MLAs Rs.57.02 lakh); Housing and Urban Development Minister R. Vaithilingam - (Rs.26.72 lakh on behalf of employees of TNHB, TNSCB, CMDA and Tamil Nadu Co-operative Housing Association); Forest Minister K.T. Pachamal - (Rs.50.63 lakh on behalf of staff of his department); Food Minister R. Kamaraj - (Rs.1.06 crore on behalf of staff of his department); and Deputy Leader of Opposition Panruti S. Ramachandran - (one month salary of DMDK MLAs Rs.15 lakh); Pollachi N. Mahalingam - Rs.1 crore; Amalgamations group - Rs.1 crore; actor Kamal Hassan -Rs.15 lakh and Malai Murasu - Rs.10 lakh.
