The Chennai Corporation is all set to invite bids for conservancy operations in three reorganised zones. The existing 10 zones are to be reorganised after the proposed expansion of the Corporation.

The three zones would include areas which were awarded to Neel Metal Fanalca (NMF) in the previous contract. The NMF was given four zones – Adyar, Pulianthope, Triplicane and Kodambakkam.

Even though the number of zones under the new contract is being reduced, the area to be covered by the private firm would be more, said a senior official of the Chennai Corporation. After the reorganisation because of the expansion, the existing Corporation limits would be made up of seven zones.

The tender is likely to be floated this week. It has been necessitated in view of the civic body's decision to terminate the conservancy contract with Neel Metal Fanalca.

The civic body has decided to impose strict conditions for the effective execution of conservancy operations in the zones that are likely to be carved out.
