Congress MLA Jeyapaul dead

Congress legislator S. Jeyapaul, representing Colachel Constituency in Kanyakumari district, died of blood cancer on Sunday at a private hospital in the city. He was 55 and is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter.

A first time MLA, Jeyapaul was also the president of the Congress party's Kanyakumari (East) district unit.

His body was taken to Kanyakumari and it will be buried at his village Peruvilai on Monday.

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, TNCC president K.V. Thangkabalu and Tourism Minister Suresh Rajan condoled the death.

Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Congress whip Peter Alphonse, Nagercoil MP Helen Davidson and many Congress leaders paid homage to Jeyapaul.

With his death the number of Congress MLAs in Tamil Nadu Assembly has come down to 34.
