After engineering and medical rank lists were out on Wednesday, several students realised their class XII papers had been revalued
Several students, who realised that their class XII papers had been revalued after the engineering and medical rank lists were announced on Wednesday, came to Presidency Girls Higher Secondary School, a revaluation centre, to seek clarification.
Students and parents said that while they had submitted a form online for revaluation of some of the papers and downloaded the bank challan, they had not actually made the payment at the bank. When some students saw their ranking was much lower than expected, they realised their papers had been revalued. Students, accompanied by their parents, came to the centre from places such as Madurai and Kallakurichi.
One such student said that her cut-off in the medical rank list was 197 instead of the 197.25 which she had expected because she had lost one mark in chemistry after revaluation.
“Now she is behind by hundreds of ranks because of the .25 difference. She downloaded the answer sheet, submitted the form and downloaded the bank challan. But on consulting, her teacher advised us against applying for revaluation. So we did not make the payment. Only when we saw the rank list, we realised that it had been revalued. But, we made a representation to the officials, and are hopeful,” a parent said.
Students said they are hoping their case would be considered.
Though the director of government examinations was unavailable for comment, sources said parents’ representations were received and that they would verify their records and with check with the bank if a payment was made.
“The first part is the submission of application, which the candidates have done. This is followed by the downloading of the challan, and then payment at the bank.”
The instructions on the website were very clear, and the submission of application for revaluation by the candidate was taken as authentic, the source added.
“Nearly 84,000 applications were received for photo scanning of answer sheets, close to 14,000 for retotalling and 5,747 for revaluation. So, when candidates have made a submission for revaluation, it is treated as genuine,” the source said.
“Making the payment with the bank is only the next stage,” the source added. The source said the rank lists were announced earlier this year, and revaluation was an elaborate process. This is the first time the entire process has been conducted online.
Though the source said candidates needed to be prepared for an increase, decrease or status quo in marks, parents said if evaluation was done precisely, marks would not differ even after revaluation.
