A high-decibel concert by Vijay Narain and his group of ‘Super Singer' fame set the ball rolling on the 26th edition of the inter-college cultural fest ‘Kalakrithi 2011', of AC College of Technology at Anna University here on Wednesday.
The four-day fest was inaugurated by director Gautham Menon who asked students to follow their dreams like he did. “After joining engineering I decided that I wanted to be a filmmaker. Although it was after five to six years of struggle that my dreams were realised, it was possible because of the support of my parents and teachers,” he said.
Mr. Menon compared the cultural fest to making a film. “In Tamil, we [directors] write our own script, take it to the actor and convince him, for which communication skill is essential. Filmmaking is like organising a cultural fest,” he added.
Apart from a plethora of competitions, workshops and variety events, this edition of ‘Kalakrithi' is special as a part of the proceeds will be given to the Adyar Cancer Institute. According to Anupama Prakash, cultural secretary, the revenue from the ticket sales for the concert on Thursday would be donated to the Cancer Institute.
The concert will be by Naresh Iyer and Divya and group.
Promo of ‘Mankatha'
The promo of actor Ajit's 50th movie, ‘Mankatha', will be another highlight to the cultural fest where the film's crew would be present.
Other crowd pulling events include a workshop by cinematographer Rajiv Menon on photography, workshop by keyboard Stephen Devassy on music production, finals of the variety show and choreo nite. P. Kaliraj, Dean, AC College of Technology, asked students to follow their passion.
The screening of Kamal Haasan's 'Manmadhan Ambu' was another attraction on the first day.
