Complete scrutiny of college postings: HC

February 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Madras High Court on Wednesday ordered the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Thiruvalluvar University in Vellore district to complete expeditiously the scrutiny of all appointments in the arts and science colleges affiliated to the university with regard to fulfilment of the Commission’s regulations.

The court said the university should extend cooperation to the UGC to complete the task, preferably within six months. The First Bench comprising Chief Justice S.K. Kaul and Justice M.M. Sundresh passed the order on a PIL by I. Elangovan seeking to quash a resolution of the university’s Syndicate of October 9 last year. As per the resolution, the university granted two academic years’ time to teachers of the affiliated colleges to complete the eligibility criteria as per the UGC norms. This was to get qualification approval from the university.

The petitioner said the impugned resolution was against the orders of the High Court in a case. The resolution was proof that unqualified assistant professors were employed in the affiliated and approved colleges.
